Welcome to the library of the “Eduardo Martínez Torner” Higher Conservatory of Music.
The library of the “Eduardo Martínez Torner” Higher Conservatory of Musicis a specialized library for use by the center’s educational community. It counts with a consulting room, computers equipped with Internet service and a storeroom where scores are hosted. External users will only be able to access its services for research purposes and upon prior written request, addressed to the management of the Conservatory.

In-library consultation and loans

The reference section is located in the reading room, as well as the collection of monographs and periodicals. These funds are accessible directly to the user without prior request to the room staff, but to use them you must have previously used the hydroalcoholic gel available in the library. After use, documents must be returned to their place in case the exact location is known, or staff should be asked to help organize them correctly. The diversity of materials that make up the library’s collection, their dimensions, as well as their nature, make it impossible for all of them to be arranged on public access shelves, which is why a large part of them (mainly sheet music and sound recordings) are kept in a closed storeroom and must be consulted in there. To do this, the user must locate the works they want in the catalog, and request them from the person in charge of the library.
Loans
In case that the works are not part of material belonging to the reference collection, they may be loaned for a period of seven calendar days for students and fifteen calendar days for teaching and administrative staff, renewable for the same period of time, unless another user has made a reservation on that document. As long as the user has loan material in their possession, they will not be able to access new loans. Students who fall behind in returning the borrowed material will be penalized with a delay in the granting of the new loan equal to twice the number of days of delay. In case of continued recidivism, the sanction may cover the entire academic year. The sanctions, both in the case of delay and recurrence of this behavior, may be accumulated to the incoming school year.

Dr. Mercedes Fernández Menéndez. Born in Morcin, 1977. She graduated in Geography and History from the University of Oviedo (2000), graduated in Library Science and Documentation (2009) and graduated in Information and Documentation (2011) from the University of León, a center where she obtained her doctorate, in 2015, in the “Management and transfer of knowledge in organizations” program. Likewise, he has completed postgraduate studies on Recovery and Management of Ethnographic Heritage and on New Technologies Applied to Library Management and is in possession of the Certificate of Pedagogical Aptitude (CAP for its acronym in Spanish).
She has worked in various educational and cultural institutions, both in private companies and in the Administration of the Principality of Asturias area, and since 2005 she has been developing her professional work, by public competition, in the library of the «Eduardo Martínez Torner» Higher Conservatory of Music.
For several years, she has been a member of national commissions on specialized libraries (currently representative of the CA Asturias in the CT of Specialized Libraries of the Library Cooperation Council and Coordinator of the Commission of Libraries of Conservatories and Musical Teaching Centers of AEDOM) and her presence as a lecturer is usual in the most prominent professional forums (FESABID, IAML, AEDOM, APEI, etc.).
Inicia su formación musical en la Sociedad Protectora Musical La Lira de Alfarp. Posteriormente, continúa sus estudios en el Conservatorio Profesional de Música Perfecto García Chornet, donde obtiene el Premio Extraordinario de Fin de Grado. Finaliza sus estudios superiores en el Conservatorio Superior de Música Salvador Seguí de Castellón, alcanzando la Matrícula de Honor en la especialidad de Trompeta. Seguidamente, cursa el Máster en Trompeta en el Koninklijk Conservatorium de Bruselas bajo la tutela del profesor Manu Mellaerts.
Nacido en Mieres (Asturias), inicia sus estudios musicales de piano y percusión en el Conservatorio Profesional de Música de Oviedo, continuando posteriormente su formación en la especialidad de Percusión en el Conservatorio Superior de Música “Eduardo Martínez Torner” de Oviedo. De manera paralela, cursa el Grado de Maestro en Educación Primaria, con especialidad en Música, en la Universidad de Oviedo.
Born in Madrid. In a short time, he moved with his family to Almería and Cádiz, whereby he began his Piano studies at Academia de Bellas Artes Santa Cecilia in El Puerto de Santa María and the Real Conservatorio Profesional de Música Manuel de Falla. Later, he furthered his studies at Conservatorio de Música Amaniel, in his hometown, and the Real Conservatorio Superior de Música de Madrid with Fernando Puchol, where he obtained three Graduation Prizes in Piano, Chamber Music and Musical Analysis, as well as the bachelor’s degree in Piano, Chamber Music and Improvisation.

Pronto su familia se traslada a Almería y a Cádiz, donde inicia sus estudios de Piano en la Academia de Bellas Artes Santa Cecilia de El Puerto de Santa María y el Real Conservatorio Profesional de Música Manuel de Falla de Cádiz. Posteriormente, continúa en el Conservatorio Profesional de Música Amaniel de su ciudad natal y el Real Conservatorio Superior de Música de Madrid, estudiando con Fernando Puchol, donde obtiene tres Premios de Honor de Fin de Grado en Piano, Música de Cámara y Formas Musicales, el Título de Profesor Superior de Piano y los Títulos Superiores de Música de Cámara e Improvisación.
