Elena Miguélez Civera was born in Segovia in 1980. She received her musical education in Palencia, Burgos, León and Oviedo, where, with the guidance of Dr. Maria Teresa Pérez Hernández, she successfully obtained a Bachelor’s Degree in Piano Teaching and won the “Extraordinary Prize” of the Jury (2001). Elena also completed a Bachelor’s Degree in Chamber Music, Music Pedagogy and Music Theory. In 2003, she moved to Utrecht (The Netherlands) where she attended a Postgraduate program in the HKU Utrecht School of the Arts. Guided by Mr. Paolo Giacometti, she specialized in Piano Interpretation, graduating with high marks in June 2005. In 2010, she obtained her D.E.A. (Advanced Studies Degree) from the University of Oviedo, thanks to her essay about the Piano Works of Rogelio Villar, which was awarded the highest possible grade.

During her career, Elena has also had the privilege of taking lessons from accomplished pianists such as Carmen Deleito, Josep Mª Colom, Marta Zabaleta, Lucca Chiantore, Francisco Jaime Pantín, Blanca Uribe, Julian Martin, Boris Slutsky, Dominic Weber, Stephen Prutsman, Joaquín Achúcarro, Alan Weis, Balázs Szokolay and Hakon Austbo.

Her piano skills have been acknowledged in several competitions where she has been awarded: the “Caja Duero” Prize, “Best classified competitor from Castilla y León” and First Prize in the National Competition “Gerardo Diego” (Soria, 2003), the “Ángel Muñíz Toca” Prize (Oviedo, 2001) and First Prize in the 3rd International competition for young talent (2000).

As a soloist Elena performed recitals and was accompanied by various symphony orchestras in Spain (Amnesty International Orchestra, Extremadura Symphony Orchestra, City of León “Odón Alonso” Symphony Orchestra). In the Netherlands she played in venues such as Kikker Theatre, Fentener van Vlissingenzaal (both in Utrecht), Bachzaal and Beurs van Berlage (Amsterdam). She has also performed in the “City of León” Auditorium, Bérgidum Theatre in Ponferrada, “Ángel Barja” Auditorium in León, “Eutherpe” Concert Hall, “Príncipe Felipe” Auditorium in Oviedo…

Elena has always had in mind the role of the pianist within an ensemble. She has taken part in several chamber music projects in Spain and The Netherlands (i.e. the Ensemble Parade in the Big Hall of Vredemburg Auditorium, Utrecht), lyrical projects (Carmina Burana and “The Little Sheeper” by Britten in the “City of León” Auditorium), and not forgetting her collaboration with different orchestras as piano “tutti”.

As an accompanist, Elena has had the pleasure of playing with great musicians such as the saxophonists Arno Bornkamp, Alexander Doisy and Christian Wirth. She is frequently invited to attend Conferences (i.e. 2nd National Conference of Saxophonists) and summer-schools (International Music Summer School “City of Astorga”, Arteforum Courses in Gijón, International Musical Summer School of León…).

Recording projects taken on by Elena include the promotional CD of the 4e Fluticon Compositie Concours with flutist Mélanie Cacault (2004). She has also taken part in “Music Across the Atlantic” in collaboration with the Indiana South Bend University together with saxophonist Antonio Cánovas, with whom she formed the duo Saxperience in 2008.

In 2006, she obtained her position as teacher of Piano and Repertoire with Piano Accompanist through a public competitive examination at the Conservatory of Music “Eduardo Martínez Torner” of the Principality of Asturias (CONSMUPA).
